Alton Ellis

Alton Ellis is one of the first great singers to come out of Jamaica.

He began his singing career in the mid 1950's durring the ska revolution and saw his peak in the 1960's. He also maybe came up with the first rocksteady song ever with "Get Ready Rock Steady". In this song the tempo was slowed from the ska beat beacause the bassist Jackie Mitto couldn't keep up with the ska beats. The fact is that Jackie Mitto was a keyboard player and not a bassist.

By the 1970's Alton began to slow down and he moved to England. There he would start his own recording studio and continue to put out a few more albums over the next 30 years. Even today you can ocasionally catch him playing live somewhere.
