Toots Hibert started in the late 1950's/early 1960's when ska was the style of the day. He and the Maytals produced many of the hits of that time. They continued with great success until 1966 when Toots was sent to prison for possession of Ganja. The band waited for him to get out and when he did he had the song "54-46 That's My Number", which was a reference to his prison number. The song was a smash hit throughout the world and even today is still heard with regularity.
As the ska changed to rocksteady then to roots Toots and the Maytals slowed but continued to tour and release music. Don't let the old ska style of Toots fool you, even today he is still one of the most active fun concerts you will see anywhere.
