U-Roy started in 1961 but throughout the 1960's this style of music was unknown. In the late 1960's U-Roy met King Tubby and Lee Perry. This brought him his first album with this type of music. By the mid 1970's the producers all over Jamaica were looking for the next great DJ talent.
U-Roy just grew and got better putting out tons of music. By the early 1980's he had his own sound system and was maybe at the top of his career. During the mid 1980's he seemed to take some time off but he soon returned and has continued to record great reggae. Many of his toasts of today include other greats like Gregory Isaacs, Dennis Brown and Horace Andy.
